My happy place is definitely in the kitchen baking. I love teaching myself new techniques. I especially love sharing my joy of baking with my daughters, Bella and Nava. They get so excited to learn something new. Kitchen experiments have really become our way of bonding since I decided to go back to work. The girls helped me create this Apple themed recipe for Family Fun Twin Cities 3rd Annual Orchard Crawl, this Sunday September 24th, at Fischer Croix Farm Orchard in Hastings, MN. I hope to see you there! Go here to purchase tickets www.familyfuntwincities.com.
Apple Rice Krispy Treats
approx 6 servings
1-7oz Jar Marshmallow Fluff
2 Tablespoons butter
1/2 Cup Candy Melts (green, red, or yellow)
3 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
6 Pretzel sticks
1/2 cup Green Candy Melts
1 tablespoon butter
Candy Decorating bag
Prepare a cookie sheet with wax paper and set aside. Place the marshmallow fluff, 2 tablespoons butter, and candy melts into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Heat for an additional 10 seconds, if the candy melts haven't completely melted.
Add Rice Krispies and stir until cereal is evenly covered with the marshmallow mixture. Place in refrigerator for 5 minutes.
Remove from refrigerator. Rub a small amount of butter between the palm of your hands to prevent the cereal from sticking too much. Grab a handful of cereal and shape into a ball. Insert a pretzel stick into the center of the rice krispie treat.
Place green candy melts in the Candy Decorating Bag. Tie shut with a rubber band. Microwave at 30 second intervals until candy is completely melted. Cut tip off of bag and squeeze a “leaf” near the “stem” of the apple.
